Volunteering to enter books into accessible text made me think about the work involved in reaching information. With IeumCare, I brought that concern to healthcare navigation: could a service help people with chronic musculoskeletal pain find and understand information about care providers and available support?
I developed the idea into a business plan and presentation for the 2026 Healthcare Big Data and AI Startup Competition. On 22 July, IeumCare received an 입선 award in the idea-planning track, a Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service President’s Award.
Choosing what the service would help with
The proposal focused on people who face barriers to accessing information. Small type and unfamiliar terminology can make an otherwise available guide difficult to use. Alongside finding information, I planned ways to present it in plain language and through audio.
I kept the scope to navigation: finding care providers, understanding relevant conditions and identifying what to check with a professional. The service was not intended to diagnose a condition or choose treatment. Making an explanation easier to read still had to preserve the qualifications in the original guidance.
Giving the data a defined role
The plan drew on HIRA’s provider information and statistics on conditions and healthcare use. Provider records would help locate services; regional statistics would supply context about patterns of care. Neither role justified choosing an individual’s treatment from an aggregate figure.
For AI-generated explanations, I wanted the reader to be able to return to the underlying source. The proposed workflow would retrieve official material and keep explanations within its scope, directing questions without sufficient support to professional review. That was a design choice, not evidence that the answers were accurate. Checking whether people understood the guidance, and whether each explanation remained supported by its source, was still part of the validation plan.
Preparing the presentation also meant keeping planned tests separate from results. Measures of comprehension and search time were proposed evaluation targets, not observed improvements. Clinical review was also prospective. Describing a feature in a pitch did not establish that it had been tested with users or reviewed by a healthcare professional.
What the competition established
IeumCare finished with an 입선 award in the idea-planning track after the final evaluation and ceremony on 22 July.
I have not confirmed subsequent operation, institutional contracts, usage or revenue. Taking the proposal into use would require testing whether people understand the guidance and can find the care information they need. Those planned checks remain unfinished.
