The second CADINAR brought speakers in product planning, software development and design into one programme for university students interested in IT. It took place on 28 March 2015 at D.CAMP’s sixth-floor multipurpose hall in Seolleung, Seoul.
I helped prepare the event as the representative of CODE FACTORIAL, a network of university IT clubs, and created its OnOffMix registration page under my name. The opening script begins with my introduction, then moves through the purpose of the seminar and the clubs’ activities. Together, the plan, poster and opening script describe the talk topics, admission categories, intervals between sessions and the introduction prepared for the opening.
Leaving room for people outside the clubs
CODE FACTORIAL brought together clubs working on apps, websites and other areas of IT. CADI was the name used for its club programmes; CADINAR combined CADI with “seminar.” It was an event series within that network, not a separate organisation.
We opened this seminar beyond the network’s existing members. The plan included university students interested in IT, and the free registration page I created reserved 50 places for general participants. This category sat alongside places for CADI-A, the app-development club; CADI-W, the web-project club; and CADI-E, which worked on embedded systems and the Internet of Things. The categories remain visible in the archived OnOffMix listing.
Building a programme around three 40-minute talks
The theme was “Convergence View,” with planning, development and design represented in successive sessions. The final poster made that idea concrete. Speaker roles and affiliations below are those advertised in 2015; the English talk titles are translations of the Korean programme.
- 14:10–14:50, planning: 최정우, head of Bridge Mobile, on “Startup Growth Hacking.” The description focused on understanding consumers when planning and developing a product.
- 15:05–15:45, development: 신재경, a senior researcher at Naver Labs, on “The Android App Development Process.” The advertised topic was what to consider when developing an app.
- 16:00–16:40, design: 김준우, head of Remain, on “A Designer’s Perspective,” subtitled “Essential Conditions of Design.”
The plan allocated 40 minutes to each talk, with 15-minute intervals between them. At that stage, the third talk’s title was still undecided; by the time the poster was published, it had become “A Designer’s Perspective.” The development session’s description also changed from checks before and after app development to considerations during development. Comparing the two documents shows the session descriptions taking shape while the main timetable stayed intact.
The poster advertised the event at 1:30 p.m., while its detailed timetable scheduled the opening from 1:45 to 2:10 p.m. It placed an event segment and closing after the talks, followed by networking from 5:10 p.m. These were the arrangements we prepared, not a minute-by-minute record of how the day actually ran.
What followed my opening introduction
The opening script moves from my introduction and the start of the second seminar to why we had invited speakers from planning, development and design. It then introduces CODE FACTORIAL and the CADI programmes.
For CADI-A, it describes recruitment across those three areas and a six-month programme, then explains the overnight, two-day Burning Camp and the Demo Day where members presented their work. The sequence we prepared would take listeners from my introduction through to how the club’s activities worked.
After the seminar
On 12 May 2016, a Yeungnam University computer-engineering notice for the third CADINAR looked back on the D.CAMP event as a seminar with three speakers and about 150 attendees. That is a later account of the event that took place. The registration page, archived two days before the seminar on 26 March 2015, instead shows a capacity of 155, 110 registrations and no one on the waiting list. Those fields describe recruitment before the event, not its final attendance.
